The number of retracted scholarly articles has risen precipitously in recent years (source). Digital publishing and the pressure to get out articles as soon possible contributes to this occurrence. The retraction may be initiated by the editors of a journal, or by the author(s) of the papers (or their institution), or by a funder. Version-control, errata, integrity, trust and more are principles that come to mind when working with retractions – no matter which platform is used (journal, repositories, web and more).
